Facebooks Profit Rose amid Leaked Documents
After 17 news organizations come together to target your company in the facebook papers, you’d think profits would be down but this past quarters report tells a different story. This includes Facebook whistleblower Frances Haugen’s Monday testimony to British lawmakers according to the Associated Press. After the report came out that facebook revenue rose 35% CEO Mark Zuckerberg made only a brief mention of what he called the “recent debate around our company.” Vaguely restating what he argued in Haugen’s Oct. 5 testimony before U.S. senate subcommittee that he welcomes “good faith criticism” but considers the current storm a “coordinated effort” to paint a “false picture” of the company based on leaked documents.
The documents, which Haugen provided to the U.S. securities and Exchange commission allege Facebook prioritized profits over safety and hid its own research from investors and the public. (Said in the aforementioned Associated Press article) She linked it to the Jan. 6 U.S. Capitol Riot and how it failed to subvert divisive content in India and how it continues to perpetuate self hate for minors using their products.. Soon the U.K. ruling for Silicon Valley is to ultimately penalize up to 10% of their global revenue for any violations.
