Covid Texts: The New Scam Artist

A new virus called Tanglebot is posing as vaccine messages, new covid regulation notifications, or refunds on items you’ve purchased. Similar to the FluBot it makes you download something after you have clicked on the link and then proceeds to control your phones data. Such as contacts, sms, call logs, internet access, camera, GPS and microphone.

            Some ways to prevent these attacks according to some tech advice:

1.     Don’t trust text messages

a.     If you see a suspicious text delete it.

2.     Follow up with official contacts

3.     Avoid clicking links

4.     Report scams

a.     If you are sent a scam text report it using the reporting feature in your messaging app or forward the scam text to 7726 which spells “SCAM”.

5.     Change your passwords
