Were you infected with Data Pilfering Malware from AT&T?
A new report from a Chinese cybersecurity company is claiming that there are years-old vulnerabilities in networking devices that have allowed thousands of customers to be infected within AT&T. This was recently uncovered at Qihoo 360 after they infiltrated a previously unknown botnet and discovered that it had targeted at least 5,700 U.S. based AT&T subscribers. If you didn’t know botnets are networks of malware-infected devices that can be controlled by one centralized party; they are often used to conduct cyberattacks or engage in other coordinated criminal activity. The affected devices are EdgeMarc Enterprise Session Border Controllers, produced by Ribbon Communications which are generally used by smaller and mid-sized businesses to manage and secure internal communications like voice and video call. Gizmodo however, estimates from their AT&T sources that there could be 100,000 users because that is the amount of users that actually use the service instead of the 5,700 initially stated that leaves out the fact that they only took information from the U.S.
