Congressman Ken Bucks Boycotts Tech Giants

Congressman Ken Bucks believes that Google, Amazon, Apple, Facebook and Twitter “use their incredible power to unfairly crush small competitors, abuse users’ privacy for profit, indulge the Chinese government with impunity and censor conservatives.” (According to Politico) The companies of course denying these allegations. Furthermore “Buck has called on his Republican colleagues to swear off taking campaign contributions from those companies”. What makes his boycott stick to his story profusely is the fact that he is one of the people in Washington most responsible for overseeing Silicon Valley, the question arises can he oversee something while not participating? His viewpoint upon Google, Amazon, Apple, and Facebook stems from ten months ago when Buck took over the Republican Party’s highest-ranking position on the Houses Judiciary Committee’s antitrust subcommittee and dug deep into the so-called abuse of the powers of tech giants against competitors and the privacy of people.

However, there have been some slip ups, knee deep in a long running investigation into competition and online platforms, an amazon package shows up in his office by accident. Within the interview with Mr. Buck the reporter explained that his office uses software that runs of Amazon Web Services, he threw up his hands.

How can a man boycotting an industry be of use to Silicon Valleys lawmaking? Well it’s up to the state of Colorado (Bucks representative state) and us to find out.
